Art

Visual arts is for everyone
Visual art is a basic and very important feature of the academic program at Uplands.

Beyond the visual arts curriculum itself we have extra curricular activities, such as painting and Art-Attack. In this club children make all kinds of things, from papier-mâché, ceramics, model making and of course all sorts of paintings and drawing in different media.

IB students often stay back after school or come to school on weekends to do extra work, as do IGCSE students, especially those in the final year of these courses.

We feel that visual arts is for everyone, not just the gifted minority. Everyone can learn to create art and everyone can learn to understand and appreciate art. It’s mainly a question of having an open mind about these things.

Art displays

Displaying art around the School is extremely important. We try to display student art as professionally as possible. The two large display panels outside Art 1 and Art 2 on the ground floor are permanent, on-going displays of the work being done currently inside the two rooms. These displays are an essential part of the art teaching strategy and are removed only when there is a change of display.

This year, for the first time, we are organsed a COMMUNITY PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION for parents and teachers. By doing so we hope to stimulate even more interest in the visual arts.
