16 June, 2017: Message from the Acting Principal

Dear Uplands community

This newsletter is the final newsletter of the academic year. It’s also the last in this format.
This week’s edition is filled with great articles and soundbites from staff and students. I do hope that you have enjoyed these newsletters and I must start this week by thanking Jeanette and Aznan in particular for all their hard work in making sure that these newsletters reach you safely each week.

I explained last week that over the holiday there is a great deal to be done; both ‘on site’ and also virtually. We will be looking closely at our school Website and also our marketing materials. We have finished our review of school policies and I hope to have these available too by the start of the next academic year. We are working hard to become more transparent.

My overview this week consists of a series of thank you’s. I would like to start by thanking UPTA for their support this year. There was another good turnout this week at the final coffee morning of the year. Ms Collis updated stakeholders on CIS arrangements and I will be sending out a summary in due course of the Endicott survey. Thanks also to Mrs Joyce for her presentation on the PYP which was very well received by parents in attendance.

This week also saw the annual Roar awards, this year held at the Holiday Inn. It was another well attended event and thanks must go to Mr Pearson and his team of staff and additional coaches (who take on teams on top of their teaching commitments) for all that they have done and given this year. The work, inside the curriculum time and out, is appreciated by everyone. Thank you. We also had 2 wonderful Musical events this week – a Key stage 3 event and some excellent performances of coursework by our current year 10’s. Tuesday’s KS3 event was very well attended and showcased just some of the talent in years 7-9, while also highlighting what is taught in the classroom. Many thanks to Ms Owens and Mr Stevenson for all their hard work in preparing for this event.

We have a number of staff sadly leaving us this year and to those leavers, we all say a huge thank you! Thank you for everything you have done and given to make Uplands what it is and we wish you the very best of luck in all your new ventures.

As we head into our final week, I would like to thank the school’s middle leaders in particular– the backbone of the school. These Heads of Faculty, Department and subject leaders, Heads of year and the leadership teams in Primary and Secondary, for all they’ve done this year. Much of what they do is not seen by others. The hours of meetings, the decisions that they are charged to make and the leadership that they all provide to their teams. Huge thanks must also go to all our support staff and admin staff who keep the school open and running so smoothly. Without this group, there would be no school!

All that remains is for me to ask you to please check the arrangements for the final week of school and the last day, specifically. All of us at Uplands would like to wish you a wonderful summer break. Thanks to pupils for all their hard work and I hope that you have a chance to reflect over the holidays on a successful year. I look forward to seeing you all return safely after the break and wish you a fun and relaxing holiday.

Have a wonderful weekend and summer break
