Library

The mission of the library is to serve the research and reading needs of Upland students and faculty. Both faculty and students take advantage of the growing collection of print, electronic and audio-visual media available for curricular and personal interest.

Welcome to our Libraries

The International School of Penang (Uplands) has two separate libraries, one for the Primary students and another for Secondary students. The aim of these libraries is to provide materials and databases to support the school’s curriculum. Besides that, these libraries are also aimed to cultivate passion for reading and research skills among students and promote future learning. Both libraries have their own collection of books and is integrated using software called, Eclipse.Net.

Primary Library

The Primary Library is located in Block E. This library houses approximately 13,000 books, which includes various titles ranging from fiction to non-fiction and home readers. This library serves students from Reception to Year 6. The Primary Library has library lessons and the students are also taught to use OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). The OPAC enables students to search for resources and information independently. The Primary library is also equipped with ten desktop computers and six iPads for the students’ usage during library sessions. We have also subscribed for e-books such as Tumble Book and the Oxford Owl reading. These e-books allow the students to read the books even from home. The library is accessible to students anytime during school hours.

Students’ Resources Centre (Secondary Library)

Students’ Resource Centre (SRC) is one of the highly valued departments in our school. This Centre is located at the ground floor of Block B, opposite the central garden. The Centre is filled with more than 20,000 reading materials which include a wide range of books (fiction, non-fiction, language text etc), references, journals, magazines, newspapers and articles. The Centre is also equipped with sufficient information technology facilities such as computers, photocopiers, scanners and printers. Besides these, the Centre has internet facilities which enable users to explore multimedia resources available.

The main objective of SRC is to support the school’s curriculum by providing support facilities, in terms of resources, to students and teachers. Teachers are able to use these resources to complement their lessons and students are able to use the Centre to search for resources for their assignments or assessments. The Centre also encourages and fosters reading habits that provides a vast knowledge to the students, which is essential for success in life.
