Jo Loiterton

Jo Loiterton, originally from Australia, has worked in international schools since 2004. As well as being a school leader, Jo has worked as a music teacher and as a registered psychologist and counselor, both in educational and community settings. Jo enjoyed providing counseling and college counseling services to students and families in the UK, China and Indonesia, before becoming High School Principal in Warsaw, Poland. Most recently, Jo has been the Secondary Principal in Vientiane Laos where she has also enjoyed the luxury of getting back into the classroom and teaching IB DP Psychology. Jo loves long-distance hiking and anything to do with the outdoors, the arts, and playing ukulele. She also enjoys following many sports, but has a particular passion for long distance bike racing. Jo is moving to Penang with her husband Mark who will teach Drama. They are both very much looking forward to being part of the Uplands community.

Paul Rose

Paul Rose, originally from the United Kingdom, completed an Honours Bachelor in Biochemistry at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and an Honours Bachelor of Education at the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada. From 1997, Paul has had postings in Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Thailand, teaching across a variety of curriculae, including IB Diploma Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Systems; IB MYP Sciences and Mathematics; IGCSE Mathematics and Coordinated Sciences; as well as VCE Chemistry, Biology and Maths Methods. Following his initial post as Head of Curriculum and Assessment here at Uplands, Paul continues in an expanded Head of Curriculum role. Previously, Paul has worked as an IB Diploma Coordinator and HOF – Science at Kardinia International College, Head of MYP Sciences at both Wesley College, Melbourne, Australia and the Prem Center, Chiang Mai, Thailand; and Head of Mathematics and Science at Te Atatu Intermediate School in Auckland, New Zealand. Paul has also enjoyed working with the IBO more directly as an MYP Sciences and IB Diploma Chemistry workshop leader, and as an IBDP Chemistry examiner and moderator for the IBO for the past 18 years. He enjoys coaching and playing football, is a passionate ornithologist, and is inspired by travel and international education.

Dawn Easton
Dawn EastonHead of Assessment / Chemistry Teacher / Science Teacher
BSc Medical Engineering, PGCE Science Secondary Education

Dawn Easton, from London, graduated from Queen Mary, University of London with a degree in Medical Engineering. She completed her PGCE at University of Greenwich and has taught in two East London comprehensive schools. Her last post was 2ic KS3 Co-ordinator and she has also worked as an examiner for Edexcel. Uplands is her first international teaching post.

Frank Morris

Originally from Solihull in the West Midlands (UK), Frank graduated from Leeds University in Geography and Business Management before moving onto Keele University to obtain his PGCE in Geography with Social Sciences (Economics). Since then, he has taught in several large comprehensive schools in Manchester, Birmingham and Northamptonshire undertaking number of roles including Assistant Head of Year and Head of Department. Frank has also worked in Ghana where he ran a number of teacher training workshops for a variety of NGOs and Private Schools. He is interested in Motor Sport, Football and Photography. Frank moved to Penang with his Wife, Emefa and two sons, Delali and Coby.

Kim Derudder
Kim DerudderIB Diploma Coordinator / English Teacher

Kim Derudder, originally from Belgium, obtained his degrees from Belgium, England and the US. He is currently working towards his Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Kim loves teaching and education as it offers him the opportunity to have a positive influence on the lives of individuals who will go on to have an impact on the world. Kim has spent the last 15 years abroad teaching in Cambodia, Egypt and Thailand before joining Uplands in Penang, Malaysia. He feels passionate about travelling, art, history, reading, tennis and spending time with his family. The motto of the school was something that truly resonated with Kim when he first heard about Uplands.
