I am delighted to be the Principal of The International School of Penang and I feel honoured to be part of a school with such a rich and distinguished history.
Uplands has provided over 65 years of excellence in education as a nonprofit organization and has a proven track record of providing excellent facilities and opportunities for all of our learners. We are proud to be an international community that appreciates and values the rich, multicultural diversity within our school. We provide an academically challenging environment for our students with a low student/teacher ratio to achieve the best possible educational outcomes for our boys and girls. We also provide a wide range of opportunities for our students in Arts, Sports, Service, and Cultural activities, promoting our students to be active learners who embrace their creativity and become life long inquirers.
Our school values are integral to who we are and what we stand for and these link inextricably with the IB Learner Profile which we adopt through our IB Primary Years and IB Diploma programmes which form the bookends of our curriculum pathway.
Our motto of “Respect for self, Respect for others” is the mantra which we believe sets our students up for success whilst at school and beyond their time at Uplands, making them the internationally-minded, global citizens who thrive as alumni when they leave our school.
Our school campus is a wonderful learning environment for our Reception to Year 13 students (4-19 years of age) and having all of our learners on one site provides a real sense of community within the school. We welcome all potential new students and their families to meet with our Heads of School to discuss the individual needs of their child/ren and they can also explore the school during their visit. I look forward to meeting you.
The International School of Penang welcomes Gavin Clark as the new Principal in August 2020. Gavin grew up in the North East of Scotland attending Robert Gordon’s College in Aberdeen. “I would also like to formally welcome our new Principal, Gavin Clark, who was promoted from Head of Primary on 1st August on the departure of Giles Mongare. Gavin has already proved his capabilities, and as a Board, we have full confidence in Gavin’s abilities to take Uplands forward in the same spirit as instituted by Giles over the past 3 years.” The Chairman’s address to the Ordinary General Meeting on 8th August 2020.
