The Communicative Bahasa Malaysia Course is an introductory communicative course for expatriate students studying at Uplands. This is a beginner course meant for expatriate students who have never learnt Malay before or have very little Malay. The course aims to provide expatriate students with various language skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively in Malay in various social settings.

The pupils will be taught according to their levels of language learning and the course adopts a very interactive approach to teaching and learning to encourage and enhance the communication skills among the students. The students will have their regular oral activities including role-plays, individual oral presentations, pair work, group work and sketches.

This course would enable the expatriate students to:

  • acquire the basic vocabulary, language structure and grammar needed to exchange greetings in various social contexts
  • understand, respond to and exchange greetings in various social contexts
  • acquire the basic vocabulary, language structure and grammar needed to address members of public, friends and family appropriately
  • acquire the spoken skills needed to ask polite questions, answer simple questions, seek information and express their opinions or feelings about a particular issue or topic
  • acquire the spoken skills needed to talk about their daily activities, personal identifications shopping, personal interests, hobbies, families, etc.
  • understand, use and respond to basic instructions in various social contexts
  • acquire the basic vocabulary and language structure needed to use numbers in various contexts in life, i.e. currency, telephone numbers, address, prices, size, height, weight, flight, etc.
  • use the language skills acquired to shop and bargain the prices of goods
  • use the language skills acquired to order food and drinks
  • use the language skills acquired to buy tickets at counters
  • use the language skills acquired for travelling
  • understand and respond appropriately to signs, signals and warnings at public places

Our Communicative Bahasa Malaysia Course aims to provide expatriate students with various language skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively in Malay in various social settings.
