Principal’s Welcome

I am delighted to be the Principal of The International School of Penang and I feel honoured to be part of a school with such a rich and distinguished history. Uplands has provided over 65 years of excellence in education as a non-profit organisation and has a proven track record of providing excellent facilities and opportunities for all of our learners. We are proud to be an international community that appreciates and values the rich, multi-cultural diversity within our school. We provide an academically challenging environment for our students with a low student/teacher ratio to achieve the best possible educational outcomes for our boys and girls. We also provide a wide range of opportunities for our students in Arts, Sports, Service and Cultural activities, promoting our students to be active learners who embrace their creativity and become life long inquirers.

Our school values are integral to who we are and what we stand for and these link inextricably with the IB Learner Profile which we adopt through our IB Primary Years and IB Diploma programmes which form the bookends of our curriculum pathway.

Our motto of “Respect for self, Respect for others’ is the mantra which we believe sets our students up for success whilst at school and beyond their time at Uplands, making them the internationally-minded, global citizens who thrive as alumni when they leave our school.

Our school campus is a wonderful learning environment for our Reception to Year 13 students (4-19 years of age) and having all of our learners on one site provides a real sense of community within the school. We welcome all potential new students and their families to meet with our Heads of School to discuss the individual needs of their child/ren and they can also explore the school during their visit. I look forward to meeting you.

Kind regards,
Gavin Clark

Head of Secondary’s Welcome

Here at the International School of Penang, Uplands, we proudly offer our families an international education that values excellence, integrity, and encourages students to live by our motto: Respect for Self, Respect for Others. Our Secondary school endeavours to strike a balance between providing a rigorous programme of academic study designed to prepare students to access higher education whilst also recognising and valuing the importance of educating the whole student to ensure they are able to thrive in our ever-changing, multi-cultural world. Our broad programme offers the opportunity to experience a plethora of subjects as students move from our bespoke international curriculum in Year 7-9 through the Cambridge IGCSE programme and onto the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme concluding in Year 13. Our academic programme is underpinned by an excellent system of pastoral care, known as our RESPECT programme where we encourage students to develop a better understanding of themselves and the local and international community. Students have opportunities to actively contribute to society as they become more globally-minded citizens and grow into future leaders.
