At upper secondary level, students will undertake the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)IGCSE syllabus (Years 10 & 11), a two-year course, taught by experienced international teachers, leading to external examinations. The Edexcel GCSE syllabi are also followed in some areas.
While conducted in school, these examinations are marked externally in United Kingdom. The IGCSE is globally recognised as an excellent foundation for study at higher level, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Uplands is proud of its record at IGCSE, consistently obtaining results clearly above the global average.
Approximate homework load per day, by year group:
Years 10 &11: 3 subjects x 40 min: total time = 2 hours + revision on weekends.
Options
Students must select 7 subjects from a grid which is based on a survey of students’ subject preferences. Subject groupings on this grid vary from year to year.

WORK EXPERIENCE
In Year 10 students undertake a week long work experience program. Students work with companies of either their own choosing or using placements arranged by the school. This is compulsory for all students in Year 10.
In Year 9 and 10 students start their careers profiling using the Naviance system. Students complete a series of tests/questions about their interests which enables a very useful profile to be produced highlighting possible future career choices for them to consider. These options should be carefully considered by students when contemplating their work experience and IGCSE/IB subject choices.
