Council of International Schools (CIS)

The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a membership community working collaboratively to shape international education through professional services to schools, higher education institutions, and individuals.

Characteristics of a CIS-Accredited School:

The final award of CIS accreditation shows that the school has achieved high standards of professional performance in international education and has a commitment to continuous improvement. In particular, the award of accreditation shows that the school:

  • is devoted to its mission and vision for students
  • has thought deeply about the services it offers to students, families, and community
  • invests the time and resources for validation from a globally recognized accreditation authority
  • focuses on the quality of teaching, student learning, as well as student safeguarding and well-being
  • is committed to the development of the students’ global citizenship
  • has a suitable philosophy of education for its students
  • promises only what it can deliver
  • is open to regular evaluation by its own school community and peer evaluators
  • constantly seeks improvement in all areas of the school plans strategically for the future.

FOBISIA

FOBISIA is a regional Federation of the leading British international schools in Asia. As an organisation it unashamedly applies stringent entry standards to all schools who apply for membership and upholds these same standards for all members through a review cycle that requires an ongoing commitment to excellence and inspection or accreditation by recognised external agencies. Additionally, Affiliate Membership of FOBISIA is open to reputable educational organisations and suppliers whose supporting services and products are of interest to member schools.

International Baccalaureate® (IB)

Founded in 1968, the International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation offering four highly respected programmes of international education that develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. Schools must be authorized, by the IB organization, to offer any of the programmes.

The IB has a hard-earned reputation for high standards of teaching, pedagogical leadership and student achievement. We work with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

Edexcel

Pearson Education Limited (Pearson) is the UK’s largest awarding organisation, offering academic and vocational qualifications and training to schools, colleges, employers and other places of learning in the UK and internationally.

Our academic qualifications include Edexcel GCSE, Edexcel GCE (A level) and Edexcel International GCSE (The Edexcel Certificate for UK state schools).

Cambridge Assessment International Education

Cambridge Assessment International Education prepares school students for life, helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. We are part of Cambridge Assessment, a department of the University of Cambridge.

Our international qualifications are recognised by the world’s best universities and employers, giving students a wide range of options in their education and career. As a not-for-profit organisation, we devote our resources to delivering high-quality educational programmes that can unlock learners’ potential.

East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS)

The East Asia Regional Council of Schools is an organization of 200 member schools in East Asia. These schools have a total of more than 168,100 pre-K to 12th grade students. EARCOS also has 144 associate members— textbook and software publishers and distributors, universities, financial planners, architectural firms, insurance companies, youth organizations, etc— and 23 individual members.

Membership in EARCOS is open to elementary and secondary schools in East Asia that offers an educational program using English as the primary language of instruction, and to other organizations, institutions, and individuals interested in the objectives and purposes of the Council. 

The Association of International Malaysian Schools (AIMS)

AIMS is a non-profit making membership organisation, dedicated to the advancement of international education in Malaysia, via the provision of services to its member schools.

  • To promote understanding between international school communities and the people of the host country, Malaysia.
  • To promote further international cooperation by encouraging cultural, academic and sporting links between schools.
  • To provide a forum for international schools in Malaysia to meet and discuss matters of mutual interest to the educational needs of students.
  • To provide a channel of communication for discussing and/or presenting matters to the Ministry of Education and/or State Education Offices.
  • To act as a consultative body contributing to the improvement of educational standards in Malaysia.

PASCH Network

PASCH stands for the “Schools: Partners for the Future”. It connects more than 1,700 schools where German has a particularly high priority worldwide.

PASCH is an initiative of the Foreign Office in cooperation with the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA), the Goethe-Institut (GI), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Educational Exchange Service (PAD) of the Standing Conference.

The Alliance for Sustainable Schools

The Alliance for Sustainable Schools (TASS) is an international non-profit network of schools that work together to address five key areas of sustainability : school busses, school buildings, school food, school uniforms, and education for sustainability. As members of TASS we have 2 student ambassadors who represent The International School of Penang (Uplands) at global meetings and who serve as liasons between the school and outside stakeholders. As members of TASS, we have signed the Sustainable School’s Charter and strive toward making actionable and measurable systematic changes within our school community.
